AMARGOSA, Nev. (Feb. 14) – Finishing the Best of the Best Wild West Showdown Series the way he started it, Justen Yeager won the Valentine’s Day feature for IMCA Modifieds at Death Valley Raceway. Yeager collected $1,000 for each of his three series victories and ran second in the other two shows. Cancellation of the Sunday program put his bid for a 100th career win in the sanctioned division on hold. Levi Kiefer couldn’t close the gap before the checkers flew and ended in second. Defending ButlerBuilt Western Region champion Dan Fitzgerald was promoted to third after Todd Nunnally didn’t stop at post-race tech. Rounding out the top five were Jake Donnelly and Mark Allison. Yeager took the initial green from inside row four and passed Allison for the lead on the 10th circuit, following the first of just two caution flags that interrupted the 25-lapper. The second yellow came around midway and wiped out the comfortable margin Yeager had built up over the rest of the field. Kiefer stuck with Yeager the rest of the way, crossing the stripe just two car lengths back.
