Taylor sweeps Winnemucca Ironman shows
WINNEMUCCA, Nev. (June 13-14) – One convincing run set the stage for a second impressive showing at Winnemucca Regional Raceway by Jeff Taylor.
Taylor won both Evenson Ironman Challenge Series features at Winnemucca, leading the last 21 laps on Monday and all 30 circuits on Tuesday. Each event paid $1,000 to win and was a qualifier for the 2012 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot.
David Thome started from the pole on Monday and led the first two times around the track. Outside row one starter Shawn Natenstedt took charge ‘til lap 10, when Taylor motored by.
Bouncing back from a couple tough outings at Lovelock, Thome ran third most of the way while Chase Hansen and Tim Ward diced it out for fourth.
Ward exited with seven laps to go and Zane DeVilbiss entered the mix, eventually passing Hansen on the final lap to finish behind Taylor, Natenstedt an Thome.
Taylor repeated his winning ways Tuesday with a flag to flag run.
DeVilbiss settled into second on lap three and Ward entrenched himself in third on lap six.
Ryan Cotrell made the show by winning his “B” feature and passed 10 cars, getting by Robert Miller for fourth on lap 23.
Thirty-four cars were on hand both nights.
