ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. (May 19) – The first doubleheader of the season resulted in a pair of first-time EQ Cylinder Heads Wild West Tour feature winners.
David Karst took the checkers in the IMCA Modified main event postponed from Friday to Saturday, May 19 at Sweetwater Speedway because of rain. Will Brack topped the scheduled feature that evening.
Both Rock Springs races paid $1,000 to win. Karst is new to the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot while Brack was already vote eligible.
Karst drew the pole for the rescheduled show and collected the win ahead of Randy Artz, defending series champion Justen Yeager, Will Brack and Matt Brack. Brody Spangler was the hard charger after starting 22nd and finishing 10th.
In the nightcap, Will Brack started sixth, moved into the lead early and never looked back as he went on to win in front of Yeager, Matt Brack, Zane DeVilbiss and Aaron Spangler.
DeVilbiss and Spangler both cracked the top five after qualifying from their “B” features; Dustin Hansen was the hard charger, however, as he advanced 12 spots, racing from 19th at the start to finish 7th
Forty-five cars vied both nights for the kickoff of the sixth annual series.
The next EQ Cylinder Heads Wild West Tour twinbill will be Friday and Saturday, June 15 and 16 at Great Basin Raceway in Ely, Nev., during the second annual Evenson Law Office Iron Man Challenge Series.
