Yeager, Alvarado record race night gems in EQ WWMT features at Diamond Mountain

VERNAL, Utah (July 20-21) – The two drivers best associated with success on the EQ Cylinder Heads Wild West Tour circuit were up to their old tricks again at Diamond Mountain Speedway.
Two-time and defending IMCA Modified series champion Justen Yeager topped the Friday night feature for his 14th career win on the circuit. That total is second only to Ricky Alvarado, who earned his 24th WWMT checkers on Saturday at Vernal.
Yeager started 13th on opening night, raced his way from the back of the pack and took the lead on lap 25. Zane DeVilbiss led much of the way but was disqualified for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Eight lead changes were counted between ZeVilbiss, Jake Donnelly and Yeager. Rounding out the top five were Chase Hansen, Casey Delp, hard charger Craig Teter and Richard Anderson. Teter advanced 17 spots to finish fourth.
While the win was the second straight for Yeager – the tour point leader also prevailed in the June 16 event at Great Basin Raceway – Alvarado was ending a much longer absence from WWMT victory lane.
The 2007 and 2008 series king started 10th, passed Aaron Spangler for the point on lap 10 and never looked back in winning for the first time on the tour since the Aug. 15, 2009 show at Fairgrounds Speedway in Colorado.
Delp and Hansen both had short stints at the front before finishing second and third, respectively. Yeager and Dan Fitzgerald completed the top five.
Hard chargers were Yeager and 12th finishing Richard Anderson. Both advanced 11 places.
The tour is at Atomic Motor Raceway on Aug. 24 and 25 before concluding with a Sept. 28-29 doubleheader at Desert Thunder Raceway.
