DEVILBISS, SPANGLER TOP ATOMIC FEATURES IN EQ CYLINDER HEADS WILD WEST TOUR

ATOMIC CITY, Idaho (Aug. 24-25) Zane DeVilbiss and Aaron Spangler both had to get up and at em to win EQ Cylinder Heads Wild West Tour features at Atomic Motor Raceway.
DeVilbiss emerged from a lengthy three-way and often three-wide battle with Justen Yeager and Spangler to top Friday's IMCA Modified main event.
Spangler's Saturday night run to the checkers came from the 13th starting spot.
Both races paid $1,000 to win. DeVilbiss was already on the 2013 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot while Spangler's victory made him vote eligible.
Hard charger Michael Hale advanced 17 spots from his original start to finish fourth on Friday. Jerry Bailey was fifth.
The 30-lapper was interrupted by a handful of cautions. ZeVilbiss and Yeager both came from the third row to run with the third-starting Spangler.
DeVilbiss finally got the best of that back-and-forth, getting the lead on lap 17 and staying in front to the finish.
The track was super racy, he said. I found different lines and could get around people anywhere on the track. If your car was good, you could go anywhere and pass them.
Spangler clearly had the good car on Saturday, which more than made up for his pill draw: 200, the highest number in the bucket.
After running fourth and failing to transfer from his heat, Spangler won the first B feature and started 13th in the main event.
That race would be shortened to 20 laps because of the time limit. Spangler, also complimentary to the track prep crew, ran a lower line than most of his competition and took the lead on the 10th circuit.
They kept watering the track during the races so it stayed pretty close to the way it was during the B, he said. They got some mud rolled in there and packed down, and I could really go somewhere.
Jason Donnelly matched his tour career-best finish with runner-up honors. Yeager, Bailey and DeVilbiss rounded out the top five.
Chris Delp moved up 11 places to sixth, Chase Hansen 12 places to eighth and Hale 13 places to ninth.
DeVilbiss had been involved in an early accident, restarted in the rear and raced his way into the top five. His car had been prepped and ready for the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals, so DevIlbiss will be headed to the shop before hitting the road to Boone Speedway.
The win by DeVilbiss was his first of the 2012 tour and career 12th. Spangler now owns four career Wild West Tour victories, two of them coming this season
