HANSEN WINS WWMT ALL-STAR RACE AT MILLARD COUNTY RACEWAY!
DELTA, Utah (October 6, 2012)- The fourth running of the Wild West Modified Tour All-Star Race is in the books as Chase Hansen of Myton, Utah edged Michael Hale of West Valley City, Utah by a bumper for the win of the 50 lap race.
Pole starter, Aaron Spangler of Dove Creek, Colorado led the first 12 laps of the All-Star before getting into a tangle with a lapped car which allowed Friday's Qualifying Feature winner Bert Beech to take over the lead.
Beech led until lap 22 when Arizona driver, Steve Simpson Jr. powered to the front of the field. Simpson would lead until lap 25 and would win the first segment of the 50 lap All-Star Race.
The field was stopped on the front stretch for fuel only and a drawing was held to see how many positions would be inverted. The number 8 was pulled so the top 8 would invert.
That put Canada driver Dan Lee to the lead with 2012 WWMT Rookie of the Year, Andy Strait of Elko, Nevada to second. Third and fourth would go to Rick Spangler and Michael Hale, fifth and sixth went to Aaron Spangler and Bert Beech and seventh and eighth were Chase Hansen and Steve Simpson Jr.
Unfortunately, Dan Lee would have to go pit side to change a tire so he had to restart in the rear of the field. That allowed Rick Spangler to take the lead for 5 laps and then Michael Hale took over on lap 31.
Hale would lead until lap 49 when Hansen got around him in turn four and would win by 0.040 seconds.
Aaron Spangler, Bert Beech, and Rick Spangler would round out the top five. 18 IMCA Modifieds attended the WWMT All-Star Race in Delta.
