Justen Yeager, the 2012 EQ Cylinder Heads Wild West Tour Champion

GREEN RIVER, Wyo. – The low point of Justen Yeager’s IMCA Modified racing career immediately preceded another highlight.
Yeager was way out in front of the field when he clipped an infield tire in the June 15 EQ Cylinder Heads Wild West Tour feature, which doubled as the opening night Evenson Iroman Challenge Series show at Ely, Nev.
The resulting broken left front suspension and 21st place finish had him thinking seriously about skipping night two and giving up his pursuit of another Wild West Tour title.
“What happened at Ely was 100 percent my fault. I pushed too hard and it was the lowest point of my racing career,” Yeager said. “But I came back and won from the 12th starting spot the next night and that was big because I’d been so down on myself.”
Yeager would win another WWMT feature the next month at Diamond Mountain Speedway and end with five more top five finishes in securing a third career series championship.
“Diamond Mountain was another good deal because I hit a cone on a lap two restart, got sent to the back and came back to win,” the Rock Springs, Wyo., pilot said. “There were probably a couple more races we could have won but we had a pretty good year. We were consistent.”
Also the Wild West Tour champion in 2009 and 2011, Yeager is second on the all-time tour wins list with 14 career checkers.
“One of the things I like best about this series is getting to race with so many different guys,” he said. “We have 40-45 cars a lot of nights and that makes it special.
Yeager won eight times in all this season, upping his IMCA Modified career total to 126.
