ATOMIC CITY, Idaho (Aug. 20) – Ricky Alvarado looks to win his third EQ Cylinder Heads Wild West Tour title this weekend, while Justen Yeager hopes to make up a lot of ground in the point standings and earn his fourth.
Atomic Motor Raceway hosts the final doubleheader of the season for touring IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds this Friday and Saturday, Aug. 23 and 24. Both features pay $1,000 to win and are qualifying events for the 2014 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot.
Alvarado, champion of the 2007 and 2008 series, has won five of the first eight WWMT events this year and brings a 23 point advantage over Yeager into the finale.
While he’s been shut out from victory lane this year, Yeager has proven himself to be the most consistent finisher over the series’ six-plus seasons. The top driver in points in 2009, 2011 and 2012, Yeager has been runner-up three nights and ran third on another three occasions in 2013.
Pit gates and the grandstand open at 3 p.m. both days at Atomic City. Hot laps are at 5 p.m. and racing starts at 6 p.m.
Spectator admission is $15 for adults and $5 for kids ages 6-12, with five and under free. Pit passes are $25.
Sixty-seven different drivers from nine states and Canada have competed in one or more of the first eight tour events this season.
National and regional bonus points, as well as a $600 share of the $3,000 point fund, will be awarded to the series champion.
